Steroids improve appetite and have effects on the function of the immune system that fights off infections. Glucocorticoids can also be used as a drug for the treatment of some diseases. Too little natural circulating cortisone is one of the components of Addison\u2019s (too much circulating glucocorticoid also causes a problem called Cushing\u2019s syndrome). These hormones circulate through the blood stream and have effects on cells and tissues throughout the body.
