fatal form of viral hepatitis that affects European rabbits. It can survive freezing temperatures and those up to 50 degrees C for an hour.\n\nRVHD is highly contagious and can be spread in a number of ways, including;\n<ul>\n \t<li>Contact with infected rabbits and contaminated surfaces<\/li>\n \t<li>Contact with the urine or faeces of an infected rabbit<\/li>\n \t<li>Insects (including flies, fleas and mosquitos) which can transport the virus<\/li>\n \t<li>Scavenger birds that have eaten the carcass of an infected rabbit can pass the virus on in their droppings<\/li>\n \t<li>Humans who have been in contact with infected rabbits transporting the virus on their clothes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nIngestion of contaminated food or water.\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f6f56e5 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"f6f56e5\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-text-editor elementor-clearfix\">\n\t\t\t\tWhat are the clinical signs of RVHD?\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-be6ae0e elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"be6ae0e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-text-editor elementor-clearfix\">\n\t\t\t\tRVHD attacks the internal organs of the affected rabbit (especially the liver) and causes huge internal bleeding. It is extremely aggressive with a 90% mortality rate for unvaccinated rabbits, however young rabbits under four weeks old appear to have a natural immunity and will be protected for their first few weeks of life. \n<Br><Br>\nRVHD causes blood clots to form within the blood vessels of the heart, lungs, liver and kidneys. These clots cause rupture of the blood vessels and massive internal bleeding. \n<Br><Br>\nOnce infected, rabbits sadly often die within two to four days and there may be no symptoms leading up to sudden death. Other rabbits may exhibit signs of lethargy, fever and an increased respiratory rate, followed by blood around the nose, mouth and anus.\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-541c763 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"541c763\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-text-editor elementor-clearfix\">\n\t\t\t\tRHD2\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0fbb8b0 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"0fbb8b0\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-text-editor elementor-clearfix\">\n\t\t\t\tUnfortunately, the virus can mutate and there is now a new strain of RVHD in the UK. RHD2 was first identified in the UK in 2013 studies suggest it has been here for longer. \n<br><br>\nThis new strain of the disease can affect young rabbits under 4 four weeks of age and the incubation time is longer at (three to nine days).
